Greshornish House Hotel

is an Isle of Skye Hotel, rated as a 4-Star Country House Hotel and is set on 10 secluded acres of garden and woodlands between Dunvegan Castle and Portree. Head Chef Colin Macdonald and his team were awarded a “Gold Plate” by Hotel Review Scotland and include guest comments like: “Don’t think twice about dinner; it’s fantastic” and “The food is as wonderful as ever”. Start with the Loch Greshornish Crab and Avocado Salad, and Avocado Ice Cream before moving on to the Escabeche of Mallaig Landed Sea Bass and top it off with a Iced Cranachan Parfait, Fresh Raspberries and Shortbread. Greshornish House has been nominated as finalist in the Most Excellent Waterside Hotel category in the Condé Nast Johansens 26th Annual Awards for Excellence, and specially commended as “Good for the Soul” in the Hotel Review Scotland awards. Check out the Jura Room which was originally the Laird’s bedroom. It features a king-size zip and link bed, open coal-effect fire and wonderful bay window which provides views to the front of the house over the croquet lawn and loch. Of course it has an en-suite bathroom with roll-top bath and separate shower. Getting a 4-Star Rating doesn’t come easy.  That’s how we rest assured that you’ll find Greshornish House Hotel to be one of the fine Isle of Skye Hotels where you will enjoy your holiday. Toravaig House Hotel

Toravaig House Hotel

is one of my personal favourite hotels on Isle of Skye for a multitude of reasons.  It’s obvious from the moment you set foot on the secluded grounds in the ‘Garden of Skye’ that this is first class Isle of Skye lodging, with incredible attention to detail and a high standard of quality. As many of the other properties covered here in our Skye hotels guide, Toravaig House has won its share of awards including Scottish Island Hotel of the Year, Most Excellent Service UK, Tourism Excellence, Hospitality Gold Medal, just to name a few.

The romantic and luxurious accommodation is popular for weddings and receptions.  In fact, if that’s what you’re looking for, I cannot recommend any Isle of Skye hotels above Toravaig House.  You really won’t be disappointed. Part of the charm lies in the fact that each room is uniquely named after an island, and decorated with feature beds iron bed sleights with full canopies. Cozy fireplaces are standard fare, providing a warm and inviting atmosphere to unwind after a day exploring, sailing, or sightseeing. Did I mention sailing?  Ah, yes! Hotel guests even have access to the Solus na Mara, a 42 foot yacht recently purchased by the hotel.  Icing on the cake in my opinion, spending a day or two out on the water, seeing Skye from angles unavailable on land. The food is widely renowned as well. Two great chefs prepare your favourite locally produced Scottish produce, fish, seafood and meats. They also do duck, venison, lamb and beef steak, along with halibut, fish, sea bass, scallops and lobster.

Our personal recommendation is the full Scottish breakfast featuring Isle of Lewis black pudding, or try the locally sourced smoked haddock and kippers. For a special twist, try a shot of whisky on your morning porridge, made with honey and cream. If you’re looking for a first-class holiday on the Isle of Skye, look no further! Uig Hotel

Uig Hotel on Uig Bay

is found on the Trotternish Peninsula and has relaxing views of Uig Bay and Loch Snizort and surrounding area. Start with the crocodile and scallops, a bit unusual, but worth the risk, move on to the Springbok fillet, and be sure to leave room for the lovely pudding and perhaps a Scottish coffee. The Uig Hotel has 15 rooms which face Uig Bay and makes this property a good selection for those wanting an authentic Scottish accommodation at a Skye hotel.

At one time this was a coaching inn with former steading, Sobhraig House, above the hotel. Ferry connections between Lochmaddy on North Uist and Tarbert on Harris make this accessible, yet the perfect place to get away from it all.  Have a beverage in front of one of the warm fires, or in the sun-lounge which overlooks the bay. Sobhraig House has been converted to lodging with a very high standard, and its rooms have lovely views as well.

There’s no hustle and bustle that you get at the large properties in Sleat or Portree, and serves as a good stop for a night as you plan a multi-day tour of the Isle of Skye. Address: Uig Hotel, Uig, Isle of Skye, IV51 9YE Telephone: 01470542205 Website:  Uig Hotel Website
